Kelly balances her writing and illustrating with photographing her surrounding Young County, Texas. Travel and personal family antiques are images that round out her body of work.
She creates her art with a process called cyanotype. Cyanotype processing was invented in the 1840s. It creates images using light-sensitive iron salts coated onto paper or other materials. A negative is placed on the surface and exposed to ultraviolet light, typically sunlight. The exposure causes the iron compounds to react and forms an inpage, which is developed simply by rinsing the material in water.
